DIY Weekend: Wonder Woman’s flats

beinggeekchic:

DIY Wonder Woman shoesThese glittering Wonder Woman inspired shoes are my new favorite thing. It’s simple, inexpensive and you can complete them in one afternoon. Just watch out for one thing: my brother claims my house looked like there had been a “glitter apocolypse” after I finished them!

It’s easy to start this. Find a pair of cheap flats, preferably something with a faux suede exterior so that the glue and glitter will hold. (I found this pair at my local thrift store for $4, but they’re not bad full price at Target at $12.99 either!)

Here’s how you do it:

1. Print out a small version of the logo. I found my logo to here and printed it at 40% its original size. Cut out the logo very carefully.

2. Put a small piece of tape on the back of the logo and put it on a roll of painter’s tape. Very carefully use an X-acto knife to trace out the logo in tape. Slowly peel it off of the roll and place it on the spot on the shoe you want the logo to appear. You will want to ensure that no corners are sticking up. You can also use a ruler to measure the perfect center if you are putting it on the toe, like above.

3. Using fabric glue, paint on the glue in even sized sections. You’ll want to do this small section at a time in order to get the best bond. Sprinkle the glitter over each section repeatedly. When you get to the logo, be very careful to ensure no part of your tape peels up.

4. Let the glitter bond dry thoroughly. Once dry, use a pin to scrape off the dry glitter that covers your painter’s tape logo. Slowly peel this off.

5. Use a fine point permanent marker to trace the shape that remains. Then use a very small brush to apply more glue and your gold glitter. Allow this to dry thoroughly.

6. Now, cut the logo in half in the logical areas along the lines in the “W” shape. This will be a template for you to draw on two more lines with the black fine point marker again.

7. When done, use hairspray to seal the glitter. Be careful not to get it into the middle part of the shoe!

You need:
A pair of flats
Glitter
Logo
Scissors
X-acto knife
Painter’s tape
Two paintbrushes
Fabric glue
A pin
Fine point permanent marker
Hairspray
2 hours

Total cost: My total was $7 for the shoes and the matching glitter, because I had the rest of the supplies.

omg be mine

do you know how rare it is to find something like this in the upper end of plus sizes

fat person clothing rant

  • women’s tees are always cut small, but mens always have too-high necklines for my taste
  • women’s tees are never long enough! i have a belly, i want my tops to cover it and i don’t want to have to wear tunic-style tops all the damn time
  • why are so many tops for big girls sleeveless? sure fat girls shouldn’t have to cover their arms, but i like to, and i know a lot of big girls who prefer to
  • not every fat woman is a middle-aged woman who likes pastels and floral prints
  • no really, can fat women even buy long sleeved tops? where the fuck are they
  • having a few items in size 18-24 does is not a good enough plus-size section bro
  • why are fat clothes so much more expensive? yeah, i get the more material thing, but most of these things are made using cheap labour anyhow (which is a totally separate messy issue ok)
  • fuck fascist  beauty standards
